This week's title comes from my journal. It's an old library book with a black and white photo as the cover page that says "The Land and People of Peru." Someone made it into a spiral journal, and I write in it every night.
This past weekend, we taught in Tacna, which is the southernmost city in Peru. Basically, we were really excited to see it because it is only about an hour away from Chile. We taught for three days in Tacna, a beach climate, which was a nice break from the cold that we have experienced in Cusco, Puno, and here in Arequipa as well. I love the SUNSETS.
Monday we got a sweet hook up and went on a tour around Tacna, which is SO full of history. I finally tried ceviche, which is one of the most famous dishes here. Basically, it's fish 'cooked' in lime juice. Tangy.
This group we taught here was awesome. Great ideas, and I'm excited for them to see where they end up going with their already existing businesses. It's awesome to see how each city differs in accent, culture, and cleanliness as well... Tacna is the cleanest city I've visited here in Peru.
On Saturday, we were fortunate enough to go to Arica, Chile for about 5 hours. Things fell into place. We found a tour guide who took us around to the important places, but then we realized we did not have Chilean pesos to really do/buy a whole lot. But we are LUCKY we got to visit it. So cool that only an hour away, we could already see a difference in accent, people in general, and infrastructure. So interesting.
Learning more every day, and not just Spanish. With every day, I am realizing how much more I appreciate FAMILY, FRIENDS, and a heater that is built into the house. I'm learning to be patient not only with others, but myself. Progression is a process, not an event.
It's a unique experience for me to be able to see how the church operates in a different country.
Getting to know members in each city is such an amazing opportunity and makes me want to spend more time with them and hear their conversion stories.
I love the hospitality of this culture. It blows my mind.
Until next week!
I love you. And I am SO GLAD that you got this opportunity! When you get back into the states we HAVE to talk. I want to hear ALLLLLLLL about EVERYTHING. I love reading your blog but i miss your voice! Love love love!!!
